Locally known as the ‘Brixton Beach’, this sand and wet play area in Brockwell Park is heaven for children on a hot day.  The only draw back is that when the sun comes out every one else will have the same idea, and the area does get crowded. Nearby you will find the adventure play ground, one of the few play areas in south London aimed at older children.  While in the area take a look at Brixton market.  (Open Mon - Sat, half day Wed.)There is always a vibrant atmosphere, soak up the  smells and sites of unusual vegetables and exotic fish, and marvel at the meat with the heads and feet still on. Beats the boring conformity and plastic trays of the supermarket any day. Buy something you have not tried before, and have a food adventure.  If you would rather stick to what you know then Franco Manca, 4 Market Row, Electric Avenue, serves the best - and the most reasonably priced - pizza in London.’ Time Out June 2012. Open Mon 12 - 5pm, Tues - Sat 12 to 11pm, Sun 12 to 10.30 Nearest Tube: Brixton, Rail: Herne Hill.  Lots of buses go there.

Don't forget your double sided waterproof / fleece picnic rug, with bag.
